Veterinary sites

  • Anesthesia Section
Detailed website on local anesthetic techniques utilizes drawings, photos, and extensive clinical descriptions to describe regional anesthesia. Techniques include blocks for declaw surgery in cats, brachial plexus block, dental blocks, and epidurals. Site also provides information on local anesthetic techniques for cattle.
  • Epidural Anesthesia
From Michigan State University's CVM, an illustrated, step-by-step description on how to perform epidural anesthesia in small animals. Covers materials, procedure, and effects.
  • Inhalants In Veterinary Anesthesia
This book chapter reviews inhaled anesthetics (including nitrous oxide, Sevoflurane, halothane, desflurane, and isoflurane) for dogs and cats. Each anesthetic's indications, potency, chemical characteristics, cardiovascular, and respiratory effects are discussed in detail. You must join IVIS to access its pages, but membership is free.
  • International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management
Founded in 2003, the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) intends to become the recognized leading forum and resource in animal pain for the veterinary profession through research, education, and advocacy.
  • Local Anesthetic Techniques
From Oklahoma State University's CVM, a great article with diagrams on local anesthetic techniques.
  • Nalbuphine (Nubain)
Nalbuphine is a mixed agonist/antagonist with qualities similar to butorphanol. This drug is currently unscheduled, and currently about half the cost of butorphanol. It is synergistic with medetomidine, appears to be well suited to early shock management, and can be administered by either the IM or IV routes.
  • The Virtual Anaesthesia Textbook
    Virtual Anaesthesia Textbook project.
  • Veterinary Anesthesia Support Group
This website provides a wealth of information for the general practitioner. Information covers a wide variety of specific situations and disease conditions, covering each one thoroughly and practically. The site includes summaries, constant rate infusion (CRI) information, oral options for the difficult dog, etc. A really neat feature is a spreadsheet feature for individual medications and CRIs. This is a website that can be used daily by veterinary practitioners.
  • Veterinary Anesthesiology
    From Oklahoma State
