  This site discusses multidrug sensitivity (the mdr1 mutation test/drug sensitivities). Drugs which have been reported to cause problems in dogs with the mdr1 mutation include: doxorubicin, vincristine, digoxin, butorphanol, loperamide, and ivermectin. Using mdr1 sensitivity testing, veterinarians can now determine if a dog is normal, in which case the drug can be administered, or abnormal, in which case an alternative treatment can be given.

  Misuse of antimicrobial drugs is causing the reappearance of many forms of infectious diseases that were formerly well controlled. The CDC's information is aimed at human medicine and physicians, but also provides information applicable to veterinary medicine, especially food animal medicine.

  The National Library of Medicine just released a new database, LactMed, on drugs and breastfeeding. It is part of TOXNET and can be searched together with all the TOXNET database or separately. It is a Web-based collection of resources covering toxicology, chemical safety, and environmental health. Geared to the healthcare practitioner and nursing mother, LactMed contains over 450 drug records.

  The National Institutes of Health and the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) has added an online consumer's guide that provides easy-to-understand information on the potential health effects of more than 2,000 ingredients contained in more than 4,000 common household products. The database provides information in consumer friendly language on many of these substances and their potential health effects.
